Evaluation

Factual Documentary Evaluation

Finished Product

When looking at my final product I noticed some differences from my original idea such as in my original idea I planned to interview Mummit, Ashley and Mike but ended up interviewing Mike, Ashley and Andy Goodwin. Then on my storyboard it is basically the same idea but the only difference is that I didn’t interview Mummit.
I think that the final product is appropriate to the target audience because it’s a serious topic that people would watch and if they have teenagers and advise them to drive responsibly.

The music used I thought it fit well with the documentary but could be improved by the volume being quieter when the interviews start and get louder after the interview answers end.

I learned two different things while making the documentary such as uploading the footage onto the mac by putting the fire wire into the camera and the mac afterwards you rewind to the start of the footage. Next open final cut – click on final cut express- easy set up – format – pal and then use DV – PAL anamorphic – click on file and then capture and then finally press now and the footage starts to upload onto the mac
The other thing I learned to do is putting the camera onto the tripod.

The style of the documentary is formal and would work for raising awareness in tutorials at schools and colleges.

Production Process
During the pre- production process I planned to make my documentary by completing the paperwork and research for the topic.

For my research I got information from news websites such as the BBC relating to the subject of dangerous young drivers and I also got information from books about road safety and what you have to do for emergency care.

Another piece of production paperwork I had to fill out which is the production schedule by filling in a production schedule this helps me to organise my time so I am kept aware of deadline such as research, filming and editing. Also having a production it makes you good for time keeping.

I filled in a recce sheet so that you know where you are filming. This gave me a clear view of the best places to film and where to place the camera.

I used a storyboard so that I have a clear idea of what the documentary will look like and what audio will be use in the background. After the story board I did a shooting scripts are used so that you know what will be said in the advert.
To film my documentary, I used a handycam placed on a tripod to keep the camera steady and I used the day light setting for the cut aways outside in the daylight. Then with the footage I stored it on a tape with my name so that I keep organised and avoiding the mistake of losing the tape.

Sources of Information
Overall I think the finished product of the documentary is very good and that was because I had the documentation to help me get a clear idea of what the documentary would look and sound like but if I didn’t have the documentation I would have no idea of what to do.
I have received comments from peers saying the documentary was good and well structured because of how they found it easier to understand for the people that watch it.

The music used I thought it fit well with the documentary but could be improved by the volume being quieter when the interviews start and get louder after the interview answers end.

Another improvement would be to make the quality of the editing better so that it flows better and the viewer will be able to follow the story clearer.  and also more organised of who I am interviewing so that I know who I am interviewing and when I will be Interviewing them.
